Meet the U.S. first lady
Last month, Michelle Obama and her two daughters paid a visit to China. They met with Peng Liyuan, China’s first lady, and visited Chinese high schools and universities. It’s the first time the U.S. first lady has visited China by herself.
　　 As we all know, Michelle Obama is the wife of American President Barack Obama. But what else do you know about her?
　　 Michelle was born in Chicago (芝加哥), U.S.A. When she was a kid, she lived with her parents and her elder brother in a one-bedroom apartment. Although her family was not rich, they lived a happy life. They shared family meals, read books and played games together.
　　 Do you know that Michelle was a gifted student? By sixth grade, she was taking gifted classes (天才班) in Chicago. There she learned French and took difficult courses. She then went on to attend the city’s first high school for gifted children.
　　 After high school, she followed her brother to Princeton University (普林斯顿大学). She went on to earn a law degree from Harvard Law School (哈佛法学院).
　　 After graduating from the law school, she worked at a Chicago law firm. She met her husband, Barack Obama, there. They married on October 3, 1992.
　　 As the U.S. first lady, Michelle has focused her attention on social issues and education. During this week-long visit to China, she also paid much attention to education in China and encouraged Chinese students to study hard.
