The United States marked the sixth anniversary of the September 11,2001,terrorist attacks on the United States with ceremonies, tributes and silence all over the country. From VOA's New York Bureau,Mona Ghuneim reports.
Six years after the attacks that changed the Manhattan skyline forever,New Yorkers gathered Tuesday at a park near the former site of the World Trade Center to observe the anniversary.
As in years past, the New York ceremony included four moments of silence - each one in memory of the times the twin towers were hit and then fell.As in previous ceremonies, the names of more than 2,700 people who died when the towers collapsed were read out loud.Only this year, for the first time, firefighters and rescue workers who responded to the attacks and recovery efforts read the names.

TOKYO - Top-seeded Lin Dan of China coasted to a straight-sets victory Wednesday in his opening match of the Yonex Open Japan badminton tournament.
In the day's biggest upset, Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand upset second-seeded Bao Chunlai of China 21-19, 12-21, 22-20.
World No. 1 Lin posted a 21-18, 21-15 win over Denmark's Joachim Persson in a match that lasted just 32 minutes at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
"I was a little rusty in the first set," said Lin. "I was just trying to get accustomed to the conditions here, and there seems to be a bit of breeze in the building."
Lin is the tournament's two-time defending champion. He is coming off a second consecutive win at the world championships last month in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In the match featuring two left-handed players, Lin took control in the second set and went up 20-15 with a crosscourt smash.
He closed out the match when Persson's return off the serve went long.
"I'm pleased with the way things went today," said Lin. "He's a good player and I was bit tired so it was a good result for me in the opening match. I just hope to keep improving as the tournament goes on."
Lin is looking to become the first player in tournament history to win three years in a row.
He is to face Malaysia's Hashim M. Roslin in the second round on Thursday. Hashim defeated Singapore's Lee Yen Hui Kendrick 21-17, 21-16.
In other men's singles first-round matches, sixth-seeded Peter Gade of Denmark coasted to a 21-15, 21-15 win over Malaysia's Wong Choong Hann.
Gade won the tournament in 1998 and 1999.
Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei, seeded fourth, recovered from a shaky first set on his way to a 22-20, 21-8 win over compatriot Muhd Hafiz B. Hashim.
In women's singles, top-seeded Zhang Ning of China coasted to a 21-19, 21-11 win over Germany's Juliane Schenk, while second-seeded Xia Xinfeng of China downed Judith Meulendijks of the Netherlands 15-21, 21-14, 21-18.
