on the wings
作为整体,考词组的话,多是“在飞行中,在活动中,即将出发的”的意思.
但是,下面这个句子：
“Arranged in regular rows,as the spots on the wings of an insect.”
on the wings 就很普通了.就是在翅膀上,类似的是on the table,在桌子上.
那句话的意思是“按规则的行来排列,就象是昆虫翅膀上的斑点的排列方式.”

其实这个我也不知道的,刚刚查了下感觉好像是这样的~
on the wing多表示的是在飞行在空中,它用得比较多.
例子是：
1.The wild goose on the wing,一个片子,中文翻译是“雁儿在林梢”；
2.They spend at least nine months of the year on the wing.
他们每年至少飞行九个月.
3.Time is a bird forever on the wing.
时间是一只永远飞翔的鸟.
而on the wings多直译.
例子是：

爱的双翼
2.On the Wings of Song
乘着歌声的翅膀
3.You are on the wings of my dream.
