因为句子的两个部分之间只有逗号,没有连词（如and,but,when等等）,所以第一部分就不能用谓语动词,而用非谓语动词,这样就排除了A项和D项.
C项虽然有非谓语动词been,但它是过去分词,表示被动或完成,所以也不能选.
如果选A,则句子会变为：
Since so many directors were absent,the board meeting had to be put off.
（既然有那么多的董事缺席,董事会只好推迟举行.）
也就是因为没有 since,谓语动词 were 就变成了非谓语动词 being.

D 因为很多董事都没有出席所以会议被推迟了
