我个人觉得应该是three of the people.
three people就是“三个人”,很普通的用法；
three of the people就相对来说比较强调three这个数量概念,
eg.Among today's customers,three of the people chose DIOR while eight of the people chose CHANEL.

区别在于你用这个单词语气区别 例如：
this should be a sufficient amount for three people
这个量应该足够三个人吃了。
这两个单词没多大的区别用哪个多合适。。。不过一般的用Three people的比较多

three people，三个人
three of people，除非有特别的语文环境，目前还没见过这么表达英文的，见过的如：three kinds of people, three million people等
